Marwencol

Marwencol” is a documentary about the fantasy world of Mark Hogancamp.

After being beaten into a brain-damaging coma by five men outside a bar, Mark builds a 1/6th scale World War II-era town in his backyard. Mark populates the town he dubs “Marwencol” with dolls representing his friends and family and creates life-like photographs detailing the town’s many relationships and dramas.

What begins as a form of therapy for both the physical and emotional trauma of his attack soon develops into something much more.

Abandoned Monuments

From 2006 through 2009, photographer Jan Kempenaers toured the ex-Yugoslavia region and documented a series of long abandoned WWII monuments. Through years of neglect and decay they now approach the status somewhere between non-political sculpture and 1970’s sci-fi movie prop.
