Hero Complex Gallery presents an art show devoted to the films of director John McTiernan. My contribution imagines a portrait of the creature from Predator creating havoc in ancient Japan. Framed version including gold foiling pen details will be available in the gallery.

The Blue Genie Art Bazaar is a unique holiday shopping experience held annually in Austin, TX. The event runs from Black Friday through Christmas Eve, open every day from 10AM-10PM (closing at 6PM on Christmas Eve.) With 200+ artists on display, it’s always an honor to be included. “Got a Light?” is a 6″ x 12″ wall calendar displaying a variety of pop culture characters in the form of vintage matchbox labels. “Sci-Fi Transport” displays 12 vehicles from science fiction movies and TV and is presented in a CD case sized desktop format (measures 5.4″ x 4.65″) Both are printed on 100 gloss book paper. Wall calendar is wire bound with hanger and desktop version comes in plastic CD case that flips open for display.

Taking Austin Books’ birth year, 1977, as their inspiration, twenty-three talented artists will help pay tribute to the legendary comic book store via limited edition prints and original artwork. For the “Spirit of ’77” show, I created 2 pieces celebrating 2 pop culture icons from the year 1977. Saturday Night Live’s Samurai Delicatessen skit with John Belushi and Chewbacca from Star Wars. Planet Kashyyyk Matches by Chet Phillips
“Kaiju Man” is an accordion style book measuring 4.75″ x 6″ folded and approx. 37″ x 6″ when opened and expanded. Through words and pictures it tells the story of a man who experiences a dramatic transformation with ultimately tragic results.

Preview night! Jeffrey Vaca presented me with a vintage game cartridge version of my Parzival’s Quest artwork that I created in tribute to Ready Player One. Thank you Jeffrey, for the wonderfully creative gift!

Gallery 1988 presents “30 Years Later,” an art show celebrating movies released in 1987. My contribution titled “Predator Tin Toy” pays tribute to “Predator” as a black light tin toy version of the movie’s monster. (Note that the Yautja letters below the chest TV spell out “Dutch.”

The “Monster Zen” book is a collection of monster illustrations and haiku poems by Chet Phillips. 16 Monsters are showcased. Now available in the ChetArt online shop. A selection of prints from the series available here.
Each book is hand bound in a Japanese style with a variety of Chiyogami paper labels and ribbons. Measures 9.25″ wide x 8.5″ tall. Covers are 100 lb cover stock and pages are printed on 80lb glossy text. Japanese chop translating to “Chet” and artist signature on the inside back cover.
