“Got A Light? Matchbox Label Art” show opened at Gallery 1988 in L.A. and runs through September 8th. The collection showcases 35 new pieces, all paying tribute to the look of vintage matchbox labels with pop culture themes. A selection of pieces are also presented as 3-D matchboxes in shadowbox frames.
All prints are signed and numbered from a limited edition of 25. Number 1 from each edition is framed.

Join me at the reception at Gallery 1988 Friday, August 24th for the opening of “Got a Light? Matchbox Label Art.” It’s a collection of new artwork celebrating the look of vintage matchbox labels with a pop culture theme. Each of the 35 pieces are available as signed limited edition prints. Along with framed versions there are eleven from the collection presented as 3-D matchbox sculptures in shadowbox frames. There will also be a limited number boxes of matches labeled with a selection of images.
The show will be on display for two weeks and all pieces will be available in Gallery 1988’s online shop on Saturday, August 25th. If you’re in L.A. I hope to see you there!

The Blue Genie Art Bazaar is a unique holiday shopping experience held annually in Austin, TX. The event runs from Black Friday through Christmas Eve, open every day from 10AM-10PM (closing at 6PM on Christmas Eve.) With 200+ artists on display, it’s always an honor to be included. San Diego Comic Con 2017: ChetArt table in the Small Press area, table O-01. 2017 was a great year in San Diego for us thanks to the great support of everyone who came by to purchase and visit. Preview night! Jeffrey Vaca presented me with a vintage game cartridge version of my Parzival’s Quest artwork that I created in tribute to Ready Player One. Thank you Jeffrey, for the wonderfully creative gift!
Another great highlight of the show was a visit from Cory Doctrow. Cory has been a great supporter over the years, highlighting several of my projects on boingboing. Thank you for taking the time to come by for the visit, Cory!

Gallery 1988 presents “30 Years Later,” an art show celebrating movies released in 1987. My contribution titled “Predator Tin Toy” pays tribute to “Predator” as a black light tin toy version of the movie’s monster. (Note that the Yautja letters below the chest TV spell out “Dutch.”

The 2016 Blue Genie Art Bazaar is an Austin, TX tradition. The event opens on Black Friday/November 25th at 10AM and will be open from 10AM-10PM every day forward until Christmas Eve (6PM.) Rock ‘Em Snark ‘Em Robots by Chet Phillips
Gallery 1988 West presents “The Power of Mattel” show, a collection of artworks based on classic Mattel games and toys. My contribution, titled “Rock ‘Em Snark’Em Robots,” is a mashup of Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots with Mystery Science Theater 3000 robots Tom Servo and Crow T. Robot. Also included are a few Kaiju references.
Show opening is Friday, September 30th and on display through October 15th.
