The event showcases the creations of 200 local artists and runs every day from 10AM-10PM starting Black Friday till Christmas Eve (closing at 6PM on Christmas Eve.) “Got A Light? Matchbox Label Art” show opened at Gallery 1988 in L.A. and runs through September 8th. The collection showcases 35 new pieces, all paying tribute to the look of vintage matchbox labels with pop culture themes. A selection of pieces are also presented as 3-D matchboxes in shadowbox frames.
All prints are signed and numbered from a limited edition of 25. Number 1 from each edition is framed.
Join me at the reception at Gallery 1988 Friday, August 24th for the opening of “Got a Light? Matchbox Label Art.” It’s a collection of new artwork celebrating the look of vintage matchbox labels with a pop culture theme. Each of the 35 pieces are available as signed limited edition prints. Along with framed versions there are eleven from the collection presented as 3-D matchbox sculptures in shadowbox frames. There will also be a limited number boxes of matches labeled with a selection of images.
The show will be on display for two weeks and all pieces will be available in Gallery 1988’s online shop on Saturday, August 25th. If you’re in L.A. I hope to see you there!

Laser cut wooden character pins by Chet Phillips. 1/8″ thick cherry hard wood is etched and cut with tie tack pin and rubber pin back. Available in the ChetArt shop.
The “Incognito” series of laser cut wooden pins created by Chet Phillips showcases animals wearing masks. Each pin measures approx. 2 inches square. Two layers of wood give them eye catching depth. Bottom layer made from 1/8″ maple hardwood and top layer 1/8″ cherry hardwood. Series includes: “Wood Spirit,” “Sheep in Wolf’s Clothing,” “The Trojan Bird” and “Sloths of the Serengeti.”

“Got a Light?” is a 6″ x 12″ wall calendar displaying a variety of pop culture characters in the form of vintage matchbox labels. “Sci-Fi Transport” displays 12 vehicles from science fiction movies and TV and is presented in a CD case sized desktop format (measures 5.4″ x 4.65″) Both are printed on 100 gloss book paper. Wall calendar is wire bound with hanger and desktop version comes in plastic CD case that flips open for display.

Each book is hand bound in a Japanese style with a variety of Chiyogami paper labels and ribbons. Measures 9.25″ wide x 8.5″ tall. Covers are 100 lb cover stock and pages are printed on 80lb glossy text. Japanese chop translating to “Chet” and artist signature on the inside back cover.
