Paul Horn, a.k.a. “Cool Jerk” offered great support and advice for our trek to San Diego this year. On top of being an incredibly talented artist with a great sense of humor, he is a seasoned Comic-Con pro with a huge following. The big week is almost here! Next Wednesday kicks off The 2010 San Diego International Comic Con with preview night and runs through Sunday the 25th. I will have a booth in the Small Press Pavilion, Booth P-13 and it’ll be chock full of monkey bidness. The release of MailChimp 5.2 has added an “Autoconnect Etsy Template” that allows users to automagically design an email template with news about your shop or latest items. The folks at MailChimp used my Monkey-centric Etsy shop as an example for this new and exciting feature in their announcement video and their “Let’s Get Social Guide.”
“Twilight of the Tiki” limited edition book, written and illustrated by Chet Phillips. Lettered edition- limited to 26 books. Each signed and lettered.
Discover the mystery and supernatural origins of this collection of unique Tiki figures. 36 portraits and lore, printed in glorious Tiki Colorvision. Book measures 4.5″ x 6.75″ and is hand bound by Julie Sullivan using an exposed spine sewn boards binding. The cover utilizes an attractive beige olive wood grain patterned paper and the spine construction uses hand-dyed linen thread.
Max Dalton has created a wonderful “inventory” piece that lays out all the elements from those wonderful spaghetti westerns. Looking at this, I can almost hear the whining ricochet of bullets and see the comically crooked lip syncing.

Just released into the wild… Monkey Color! Coloring Book. This 8.5″ x 11″coloring book offers a collection of 24 monkey and ape portraits from both the Steampunk Monkey Nation and Society of Sinister Simians series.

Jon McNaught has a talent for creating delicate and lyrical imagery from everyday scenes, such as the series shown above, titled “Jet Streams.”
If asked to choose an artist with a like-minded penchant for absurd silliness, all signs point to Ryan Abegglen.
I’m really enjoying the aged and elegant look of Rob Bridges work. Great expression and use of colors.

It includes the original 15 from the trading card set plus five rookies. Each book has been digitally printed on 80 lb Cougar Opaque text and handsomely handbound here in the Dancing Cat Bindery with yellow 100% cotton thread in the pamphlet book style.The cover is Classic Columns Solar White over Red Pepper. A purple metallic foil stamp image of the Wrestle Pets logo adorns the cover label.

Jose Pulido is obviously having great fun creating his series of Calavera (Spanish for skull) characters. Much of his work takes the form of Gocco prints and T-Shirts.

The craft of creatively combining ceramic molds into new visual statements is something I discovered shortly after joining the world of Etsy. If David Lynch had a Victorian parlor, I can imagine his curio cabinet chock full of these. (Maybe he does!)

Josh Cooley has created a fantastic blend of movie scenes that taste just like Golden Books (inappropriate Golden Books, that is.) The series will be compiled into a book titled “Movies R Fun” that’s due out just in time for this year’s San Diego Comic Con. Can’t wait to see it!
