Jon McNaught

Jon McNaught has a talent for creating delicate and lyrical imagery from everyday scenes, such as the series shown above, titled “Jet Streams.”

Ryan Abegglen

If asked to choose an artist with a like-minded penchant for absurd silliness, all signs point to Ryan Abegglen.

Rob Bridges

I’m  really enjoying the aged and elegant look of Rob Bridges work. Great expression and use of colors.

Thrillist-Monkey Madness

A tip of the hat to Mike over at Thrillist for the great spotlight on my work today.

Josh Cooley-Movies R Fun

Josh Cooley has created a fantastic blend of movie scenes that taste just like Golden Books (inappropriate Golden Books, that is.) The series will be compiled into a book titled “Movies R Fun” that’s due out just in time for this year’s San Diego Comic Con. Can’t wait to see it!

S.britt.com

The latest environment for Stephan Britt’s presence on the Intertubes is truly a stroke of genius. Combining his wonderfully nostalgic style within the framework of a retro Milton Bradley-esque game board motif is the perfect match.

Frank Frazetta 1928-2010

The creator responsible for some of the most iconic images from the worlds of swords-and-sorcery and science-fiction, Frank Frazetta died due to a stroke on Monday. Perhaps best known for his paintings of Conan the Barbarian that adorned the covers of Robert E. Howard’s paperback adventures, the artist contributed both covers and interior art for comics and numerous novels — including the “Creepy” and “Eerie” comics and countless other publications.  For me personally, his cover for the Conan paperback (shown above) was the first of many that lured me into the world of Robert E. Howard’s stories as a teenager in the early 70’s.

Etsy Dallas Spring Bash

(Moments before the doors opened, the only two clear shots of the set up for the next 6 hours.)

Last Saturday we were a part of the annual Etsy Dallas Spring Bash. We scored a great spot in the gallery space. It turned out to be a tremendous day with a steady stream of customers, new contacts from some great people and loads of sales. Word is the line started at 8 AM for the official 11 AM opening, all for a chance to receive a limited number of giveaway bags. Thanks to everyone who came out and made it a great day.

We were so busy for most of the day, I was only able to get away from the booth to take a couple of shots of the area towards the end. Earlier it was elbow to elbow.

Charles Addams

The work of Charles Addams was a great influence to my career in illustration. His dark humor and sometimes subtle punch lines captivated me from a very early age. I studied a paperback collection of his cartoons over and over, marveling at the way his mind worked and his use of ink and shading. 25 years ago I was inspired to write and thank him for the huge level of inspiration and how he was instrumental to my path towards illustration. In particular, how mesmerized I was as a child with his rendition of a miner spotlighting Alice in Wonderland’s white rabbit with his miner’s lamp. Not expecting a response, I was thrilled to receive a letter promptly the next week, responding to my comments about his work and how it had shaped my career path.

Dear Mr. Phillips: “I enjoyed your letter about your first confrontation with one of my books. If only all reactions could be as rewarding!’
