This bronze sculpture by Michael Johansson titled “Some Assembly Required-Hard Hat Diving” instantly took me back to my childhood days of assembling and painting Aurora monster model kits. (Those memories that weren’t destroyed by the cloud of glue fumes, that is.)

Donato Giancola
There and back again. A beautiful portrait of J.R.R. Tolkien by Donato Giancola.
Strook- Metropolis
Emily Smith- Ornithophobia
Emily Smith animates a cat with a peculiar fear. I really enjoy the transparent nature of the main character against the background.
Christmas Tree- Winning
Over the weekend I had the pleasure of exhibiting and selling my work at the “Austin Flea” holiday show Along with wonderful sales and a great time visiting with customers I also had the opportunity to trade with some of my fellow Austin artists. A theme soon developed towards Christmas tree ornaments, so this post showcases my terrific finds that now brighten up the tree and make it uniquely Austin.
Greg Geisler over at Wounded Wood supplied these beautiful cat and rooster wooden ornaments. His technique with bringing characters to life on wood is astounding. Be sure to visit his Etsy shop to see more.
New friend and fellow Austin Craft Riot artist Tara over at Lost Little Things gifted me with this great iconic Texas license plate star ornament. With a great eye for design and professional in every way, her shop of handmade and vintage inspired goodness has something for everyone. Be sure and check out more of her wonderful work.
I really scored with this trade with Mamus! His work is fresh and infused with rich character design and a great color palette. Though we didn’t discuss the inspiration behind this fellow, I can only imagine the tale of a Victorian snowman on a quest to find his memories after recovering from injuries at the Battle of Verdun.
Holli of Holli Brown Mosaics creates incredible work with bits of glass, dishware and more. The photo doesn’t do justice to the way it sparkles on the tree. You can find her amazing work online HERE. Her “Dish it Out” line is fantastic.
