BewareTheMoon500“Beware the Moon” by Chet Phillips

Hero Complex Gallery and Trailers From Hell present a two night peek into the amazing career of 7-time Oscar-winning makeup and effects legend, Rick Baker. Festivities will commence on Friday, October 23rd at 7:30pm at the Aero Theatre American Cinematheque with a double-feature screening of a few of Baker’s favorite personal projects, Harry and the Hendersons and Ed Wood. There will be a Q&A session between the films with special guests Rick Baker and moderator, Dana Gould. The celebration will continue on Saturday, October 24th at 5pm at Hero Complex Gallery with an art tribute event with Rick Baker in person, along with several pieces of Rick Baker’s original artwork on display as well. For the event I created a tribute to the classic “An American Werewolf in London,” titled “Beware the Moon.” Signed limited edition giclee prints will be available at the opening and later online.

Halloscream

About 3 weeks ago the front yard and house of my good friends Doug Livingston and Christine Pasienski was transformed into an amazing display of Halloween spookiness. Both are incredibly creative folks and they turned this talent towards creating a landscape of all things Halloween. Many aspects of their environment were created from scratch or cleverly altered to the proper effect. They’ve posted a wonderful collection of photos, which are works of art in themselves, into a beautiful online photo album.

RumbleInR'lyeh“Rumble in R’lyeh” by Chet Phillips

Guzu Gallery presents “Icons of Horror: A Haunted Portrait Show,” in cooperation with Blood Over Texas & Gore Noir Magazine. This Halloween season, Guzu dead-icates its gallery walls to the icons, heroes, and villains of the horror genre…but mostly the villains! The exhibition will feature all new, all horrifying portraits by over twenty-five artists — each carefully selected by Guzu Gallery. Original paintings, mixed media artwork, and screen prints will be available for purchase.

My contribution, titled “Rumble in R’lyeh,” imagines a special event announcement with Cthulhu at center stage.

Now available in the Guzu Gallery online shop.

Guzu Gallery is located at 5000 N Lamar Blvd. in Austin (next door to Austin Books and Comics) Opening reception is Oct. 31st, 7-10PM.
