This Saturday June 13th marks the opening reception for Gallery 1988’s “No Sad Stuff” Tom Hanks art show. My contribution is titled “To Protect and Drool” showcasing “Turner and Hooch.” Signed limited edition Giclees and a framed version available at the gallery and online shop.
Kaiju Baseball imagines an alternate universe in which kaiju creatures from the Godzilla and Ultraman worlds play baseball. The Demon Monster League is comprised of 4 teams with 9 players represented for each: Tokyo Terrors, Matsumoto Mutants, Fuji Fiends and Kyoto Kaijus. This parody mashup of Japanese monster and baseball fun is represented as a collection of baseball trading cards, an 18″ x 24″ poster and a selection of t-shirt designs. Each are listed below with details and links to browse in the online shop.
Each card measures approx. 2″ x 3.75″ with the character’s portrait, name, team name, number, and field position in Japanese on the front side. The backs pay tribute to the famed Menko card style with fighting numbers and rock, paper and scissor symbols that allow for playing a version of the card game War. Also on the card backs are English interpretations of the character’s name, nickname, team and field position with a few player stats. 40 cards in all that includes 36 player cards and 4 team cards. Set is packaged in a hand crafted green paper portfolio and gold foil stamp of Kaiju Baseball in Japanese characters on the label. Printed on thick sturdy 14 pt. premium uncoated card stock.

An 18 x 24 poster of the entire set is also available. This colorful display of all 36 players (plus 4 team cards) is offered as an offset printing on sturdy 100 lb. glossy card stock with a rich aqueous coating.

Along with the release of the ChetArt Kaiju Baseball card sets, poster and t-shirts comes a collectible Kaiju Baseball cloisonné enamel pin. In anticipation of the release of Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron film, Hero Complex Gallery has brought together 100 artists to for an art showcase celebration. I’m proud to be a part of this great event. Each artist was put through a rigorous approval process by Marvel and Disney in order to be a part of the show. My two pieces are “Smash,” a tribute to the Hulk and Iron Man’s Hulkbuster brawl and “Rampage,” a portrait of Hulk doing what he does best.

Gallery1988(West) presents “Idiot Box,” an art show inspired by current and classic television shows. For my entry, I paid tribute to the 1966 Batman TV show with a rendition of the batcave set. Replete with batmobile, an endless supply of high tech, state of the art computers, lab equipment and power reactor (plus one tongue-in-cheek addition.) “Batcave” is a signed limited edition Giclee print run of 50.

This spring, Guzu Gallery brings you its first artist’s choice, group art exhibition. What distinguishes this event from Guzu’s previous group shows is the absence of a specific pop culture theme. Rather, each artist was asked to create artwork that does not feature the usual pop culture suspects. The lowbrow aesthetic of the gallery’s previous shows will be familiar, but this go-round, each art piece will be unique to its creator’s imagination!
The opening reception will be on Friday, April 10th from 7 to 10pm and the artwork will remain up through May 11th. Limited edition prints and resin pieces will be available for purchase. Complimentary beverages will be provided on opening night. Admission is free and all ages are welcome!
Guzu Gallery welcomes everyone to the show, but if you can’t make it out, the artwork will be available for purchase in their online store on Monday, April 13 around Noon CST.

Friday March 20th marks the opening of a unique art show at Gallery 1988. The “Postcard Correspondence” show will feature artwork, not only with a postcard theme, but also presented in the size format of postcards. Along with framed pieces in the gallery, printed postcards will be available for purchase. Many of the artists, along with myself, will offer a signed limited edition run of their pieces. “Skull Island” and “The Great Escape” will be on display and a signed limited edition of 100 for each will be for sale.
